This beautiful renovation by Lane McNab Interiors gave Roomhints a ton of great living room furniture ideas. The client purchased this transitional, elegant, three story home in the Berkeley Hills with an expansive view of the Bay last year. Although it was a fairly recent custom home, it needed updates and some high end touches to make it as elegant and livable as the location.
Right as you walk in, you are greeted by a grand stairway and bold light fixture. The foyer is light and airy, thanks to the white walls and the huge windows. We tackled a living room, family room, and media room, each with its own unique personality.
The family room is serene and comforting. It has a light beige undertone that comes off light and airy during the daytime but dark and cozy at night. We love the attention to detail in the design of these chairs from Lee Industries. Leather armchairs are great because they introduce a different texture than typical fabric living room furniture and go well with many different design styles (these chairs look contemporary in this setting, but can be made to look more industrial or chic!). We then went with a minimal wood coffee table that pairs nicely with the wood floors.
Since the walls were taken up by the two windows and fireplace, we kept it simple and just hung a TV over the fireplace. The two benches at the ends of the room fill in the bare space without taking away from the minimalism and simplicity of the space, and frame the room nicely.
The living room is more formal, but still comfortable. The comfort element is definitely brought in by the gray, family-friendly sofa, while the white arm chairs bring elegance and sophistication. Accent chairs are the perfect living room furniture because they elevate a more comfort and function-oriented space.
The white walls and their huge windows are broken up by a dark paneled fireplace that grounds the entire space. The dark coffee table pairs nicely with the dark fireplace, helping to create a focal point in the center of the room.
Although the seating pieces of furniture are quite heavy, we punctuated those pieces with lighter pieces like the side tables that let light flow through them.
Again, we placed a bench and a lamp near the windows so that this space would be usable to the family.
Lastly, we knew that the media room had to be dark and cozy. This was achieved principally by the dark painted walls, though we did break it up with a light painting.
This custom sectional from Lee Industries screams comfort, even through the photos! Its comfort can be attributed to its large size, the uber soft fabric, and the two chaises. Since the sofa is so large, we went with a smaller rug with an interesting shape to help break this piece of furniture up.
The family loves playing games together so the game room was an important part of the design. The low coffee table is the perfect height for the sofa, provides ample storage, and features a cool geometric design. When shopping for living room furniture, the coffee table is one of the most important pieces because it centers and grounds a space!
The husband makes beer and wanted a special keg bar in the media room to host sports nights and game nights. The dark cabinetry, backsplash, hardware, and light fixtures create the perfect ambiance for this recreational getaway. We went with a backsplash and countertop with a busier design to create interest in this darker color palette.
